CalArts Creative Music Festival Presents Great Line Up: Live at The Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater

This season’s edition of the storied CalArts creative music revue brings one of the most formidable lineups in the festival’s history for two nights of boundary smashing creative music. The first night is titled “Music And The Voice”, and the 2nd night is titled “Music And Video.”
Trumpeter, composer, improviser and festival founder Wadada Leo Smith leads
two different ensembles:
(1)His Golden Quintet – with Vijay Iyer (piano), John Lindberg (bass), Pheeroan akLaff and Famoudou Don Moye (drums, percussion).
(2)The Silver Orchestra – Vinny Golia (winds), Vicki Ray (piano), Mark Menzies (violin), and Erika Duke-Kirkpatrick (cello).
Smith’s Silver Orchestra will be playing along side master baritone Thomas Buckner.
CalArts is recognized internationally for its extensive calendar of festivals, concert series and special events. Highlights include the annual Center for Experiments in Art, Information and Technology (CEAIT) Festival of Electronic Music and Media and the annual Creative Music Festival, featuring new improvisational music and related forms, both of which are held at REDCAT.
The school also presents a World Music and Dance Festival and an opera production-staged in collaboration with the School of Theater-at the Walt Disney Modular Theater on campus. The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts also collaborates with other Los Angeles-based and international organizations to produce special projects and hold major public events.
In recent years, the school has worked with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Villa Aurora Foundation for European American Relations; the Consulate General of France; French American Cultural Exchange and Etant donnŽs: The French-American Fund for the Performing Arts; the Consulate General of the Czech Republic; the Consulate General of Indonesia; the Italian Cultural Institute; the Netherlands Consulate General; the Goethe Institute; the German Consulate General; the American Composers Forum of Los Angeles; the Getty Center; and the Transatlantic Arts Consortium, among others.

Parking is available in the Walt Disney Concert Hall parking garage. Enter from 2nd St. and proceed to level P3 for direct access to REDCAT. The evening event rate is $8 after 5 PM, $4 after 8 PM. Before 5 PM, the maximum daytime rate is $17.
