Artists Corner In St. Paul Welcomes Eric Kamau Gravatt and Source Code
Event:
October 24th-25th
9:00 pm
Artists Quarter
St. Paul, Minneapolis
October 24th-25th brings a great performance to Artists Corner. The two-night event will feature drumming great Eric Kamau Gravatt and his band Source Code. Artists Quarter continues to show that they can pull in some of the greats, despite not having the illustrious status of New York, Chicago, or New Orleans.
Gravatt, a name that has been in the scene for quite a while, was born in Philadelphia and initially was a conga player. Seeing that he could use his talents in other ways, he turned toward the drums and dazzled people with his playing. Having played with names like John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter, his reputation as a great jazz percussionist has grown over the last 30 years, as he continues to put an almost magical touch on the music he plays.
His band, Source Code, is no less ambitious or talented, playing some of the greatest charts to ever come out of jazz. They consist of Dean Brewington on sax, Dave Leigh on trombone, Dave Hagedorn on vibes, and Ron Evaniuk on bass. Be sure to see this one if you’re in the neighborhood.
Also be sure to check out his album Hope Street MN.
