Bennett Alliance Concert Series Presents Charlie Hunter Trio & The Daniel Bennett Group

Event:
Dec. 7th
(7:30)
Cambridge YMCA Theatre
Cambridge, MA

As part of the Bennett Alliance Concert Series, you will get the chance to hear two great groups that are making their way up the jazz ladder. Guitarist Charlie Hunter & his trio will share the same stage with saxophonist Daniel Bennett and his group. Both musicians came about in the beginning to mid 90s, toward the beginning of the acid jazz movement. Combining contemporary music styles like trance mixes and hip-hop beats, these two avante-garde musicians have made a name for themselves as innovators and contributors toward the progression of jazz.

Charlie Hunter had his start back in the early 90s in the San Francisco Bay Area. Mixing traditional jazz with hip-hop, funk, and rock, Hunter was the first out of a bunch of groups in the area to be released on CD. His inventive use of a custom guitar earned him astute musicians as fans, and his talent for creating infectious hip-hop dance grooves made Hunter’s live shows guaranteed good times for college crowds.

Daniel Bennett began his career out on the east coast and is most known for his trance-inducing musical mix of jazz, folk, and minimalism. Combining traditional jazz saxophone with more common and popular music styles today, he has been seen performing at venues like Lincoln Center, Merrill Auditorium, Eastman Theatre, George Eastman House, Jordan Hall, Hale Auditorium, Open Fest, Six Flags Darien Lake, and the Rochester Lilac Festival.
