Jazz Education Inc. Offers 3 Great Programs For Music Education & Enrichment
Jazz Education Inc, also known as JEI, is a non-profit organization based in Houston, TX, with aims to provide programs centered on music education and enrichment for youth.
Bubbha Thomas, jazz artist and founder of the organization, feels that many youth are simply not given enough opportunity to make music a part of their lives, and it is his hope that various programs, events, and festivals held by the organization can help fill this void.
The organization has dedicated itself to enriching schools and communities by providing everything from performances and concerts to workshops, in-school education programs, and even an international jazz festival. The group has received much support from grants from The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), and their efforts have earned them recognition on the local, regional, national, and international levels as one of the most stable and consistent forces in the effort to create a wider audience for Jazz.
In addition, the organization has been the recipient of many honors including the American Can, Centering the Arts, the Barbara Jordan Award and a Certificate of Congressional Recognition in tribute to its many years of splendid service to the community.
Though various performances and events take place throughout the year, the JEI places much of the attention and effort by sponsoring three main programs: The Jazz & Poetry Series, The Summer Jazz Workshop, and The Houston International Jazz Festival. Jazz & Poetry is an educational/enrichment program helping elementary school children develop an early appreciation for music. The Summer Jazz Workshop produces many of America’s top young music talents through a combination of master classes, lectures, small and large ensembles, video presentations, and demonstrations. The Houston International Jazz Festival, which features international, national, regional, and local Jazz musicians, enhances Houston’s reputation as an arts center and attracts Jazz aficionados worldwide.
