Palace of Fine Arts Theatre Presents Jazz
The last of the major buildings of the Exposition (architectural unit designed in 1913), the Palace of the Fine Arts has been a huge cornerstone of the community in San Francisco. Having been used by art associations, by the city itself, and as a motor pool by the army during WWII, it has established long ties with the city as an all-purpose building.
Designed and built using donations and tax monies back in 1913, its restoration in the 1960s was a sign that the city and community could not let it go. The theatre itself, which seats about a 1,000 people in a continental-style configuration, was added in 1970. The Palace of Fine Arts Theatre is operated by the Palace of Fine Arts League, Inc., a non-profit corporation and hosts many events (music events, game shows, late night talk television shows, telethons for fundraisers, and the 1976 Presidential Debate, to name just a few).
