Pianist, arranger, educator, producer and innovative bandleader Rebeca Mauleón will perform on Thursday, October 16, 7:30PM at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, 3301 Lyon (at Bay), San Francisco. Playing alongside is a long-time colleague and percussionist Karl Perazzo (of the Santana Band), who has been a driving force in Bay Area Latin music.

Rebeca and Karl celebrate three decades in music with this high-spirited concert featuring special guests Bobi Céspedes, Orestes Vilató and Cuban vocal sensation Adonis Puentes, plus many surprise guests. Rebeca Mauleón is the ninth recipient of the SFJAZZ Beacon award, presented annually to celebrate the masterful musicians and writers who have preserved the traditions and fostered the growth of jazz in the Bay Area.The band for this perfromance includes: Rebeca Mauleon (piano, producer, director) Karl Perazzo (timbales, percussion), Adonis Puentes (lead vocal), Jimmy Branly (drums), Gary Brown(bass), Bill Ortiz (trumpet), Marty Wehner (trombone), Jesus Diaz (chorus, percussion), Vernon Black (guitar), Mike Olmos (trumpet), Erick Barberia (vocal), Raul Rekow (conga).

In the 1990s she recorded and toured with Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum as the group’s Musical Director, including appearances at Woodstock ‘99, the Conan O’Brien show, and the Regis and Kathy Lee Show. She has also worked as a producer, releasing her solo albums Round Trip and Latin Fire. For this, Mauleón has received international critical acclaim, earning top-ten status on the Latin Beat Hit Parade for seven consecutive months, including number one.

Her latest critically-acclaimed recording, Descarga en California (Universal), features
some of Latin music’s legendary figures, including Armando Peraza, Orestes Vilató
and Giovanni Hidalgo, and explodes with the passion and energy of the classic Cuban
descarga.
