Village Vanguard

October 28th through November 2nd, the Village Vanguard in New York will host a special event from Jenny Scheinman and her group, featuring Jason Moran. Violinist, singer, arranger, and composer Jenny Scheinman will perform along side pianist Jason Moran, Greg Cohen on bass and Rudy Royston on drums. The group has received much acclaim over the last year and continue their excellence in concert.

Scheinman made here 5th visit to the recording studio, releasing one of her greatest albums yet. The cinematic arrangements of Crossing The Field feature longtime collaborator and Grammy Award-winning guitarist Bill Frisell, Jason Moran (Blue Note), and a string orchestra led by founding members of the string quartet Brooklyn Rider, who are notably known for their ongoing work in Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Project.

Having grown up in a small town in Northern California and going on to study at Oberlin Conservatory, Scheinman has been performing as a violinist/fiddler since she was a teenager. She has been featured in Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll and has been listed as one of their Top Ten Overall Violinists for the last five years. She has also earned herself a name through recordings and live performances with Bill Frisell.

Jason Moran grew up in Houston as an an active member of the jazz program, playing in the big band and leading a jazz quartet. He attended the Manhattan School of Music and studied under pianist Jaki Byard for 4 years. Moran was named Playboy Magazine’s first “Jazz Artist of the Year” and has been featured in DownBeat Critics Poll “Rising Star” categories, including “Jazz Artist,” “Pianist,” and “Composer.

Appearing alongside names like Cassandra Wilson, Joe Lovano, Ravi Coltrane and Stefon Harris, he has drawn a lot of attention to himself, and because his improvement as an artist and musician has been noticed, he remains one of the top up and coming musicians in the scene today.
