Red Rock Hot Club To Release New Album “Gypsy Daydream”
In collaboration with Red Rock Entertainment, the Django Reinhardt tradition continues with the eagerly awaited release of “Gypsy Daydream.” This disc includes fourteen newly recorded songs, including two new pieces written by Red Rock Hot Club creator Rich D’aigle.
The Hot Club has been hailed as “Best Little Bit of Paris” by the Salt Lake City Weekly, and “The Real Django Sound!” by KUER Radio Host, Steve Williams. This disc features the Jazz Stylings of Rich D’aigle, Pat Terry and Scott Terry, including guest appearances by Swingin’ Clarinet player John Flanders, and the smokin’ Violin strings of Dan Salini.
The Red Rock Hot Club recreate’s the sounds of Paris in the 30`s and 40`s, the rhythm can range from laid back ballads to fast-paced swing. The music also goes by other titles such as Gypsy Jazz, Hot Swing, Jazz Hot, and Jazz Manouche. You might recognize this style of music because it is used often in TV and Radio, from commercials to feature films, such has, “The Triplets of Belleville” the Woody Allen film, “Sweet and Lowdown” as well as, “Head in the Clouds” and, as played by Johnny Depp in, “Chocolat.”
The Red Rock Hot Club was formed in 1999, and this is their third CD release; their previous release, Gyptology, was wildly acclaimed around the globe, and played on radio stations from New Zealand to The Netherlands, and locally on Salt Lake Cities NPR affiliate, KUER 90.1, a station where they have done numerous live appearances.
They have had the pleasure of appearing at such events and venues as, The Utah Arts Festival, Park City Jazz Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Helper Arts Festival, SLC Downtown Alliance, University of Utah Fine Arts Museum, St. George Concerts in the Park, Mountain Town Stages Concert Series, Brown Bag Concert Series; they have toured with the Utah Art’s Council’s Performing Art’s Tour, were asked to represent Utah at the Djangofest Southwest, held in Tucson AZ, and they just recently returned from attending Djangofest Northwest on Whidbey Island, WA. Rich D’aigle had a degreen in jazz and contemporary music when he caught the Gypsy Jazz bug fourteen years ago, as an already accomplished Jazz Musician when he walked into a Sun Valley Idaho Book Store, saw a video of “Django Legacy”.
From that day forward his musical career was forever changed, as Django has never been absent from his life since. Rich’s life is so entwined with the music of Django, that he not only plays it, but writes it, teaches it, and builds the specialized Selmer Guitars required to play this challenging style. The Gypsy Fever spread to his fellow Red Rock Hot Club mates; first to Guitar player, Pat Terry, who is a professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Utah, followed by twin brother Scott Terry, the regionally famed and sought after Stand-Up Bass Man.
