Press Release: Over The Rhine To Perform At Appel Farm Arts & Music Center

The husband/wife duo of Linwood Detweiler and Karen Bergquist, known to their fans as Over the Rhine, will appear at Appel Farm Arts and Music Center on Friday, February 6 at 8:00 PM. Backed by their band, this Ohio-based group mixes up a heady brew of insightful lyrics, intriguing melodies and emotional performances that have ensured them a spot on Paste magazine’s list of “100 Best Living Songwriters.”

Their recently released CD, The Trumpet Child, is the 17th for this prolific pair, who formed the group 20 years ago in Ohio. An unconventional mix of folk, jazz and country influences have garnered Over the Rhine consistently high marks from the critics through the past two decades. Patriot News says, “In the days of trite lyrics and formulaic melodies, Over the Rhine shines like a light in the darkness.” Tickets are $22.50 and available by calling (800) 394-1211 or by visiting http://www.appelfarm.org.

Appel Farm’s new Flex-Pass is designed to afford convenience and economy to Evening Series Concert-goers. The Pass is $60 and allows a patron to select 3 different shows during the remainder of the 2008-09 season. The February-March season at the southern New Jersey venue includes appearances by singer-songwriter John Gorka, Irish firebrands Solas, the legendary Richie Havens, Americana sweethearts Red Molly and more. All three shows can be ordered at the time of purchase, or the Flex-Pass can be redeemed at a later date.
