Omar Sosa Quartet For 4 Nights At The Jazz Bakery In Los Angeles

Omar Sosa reunites with noted Bay Area percussionist and educator John Santos for a four-night engagement at the Jazz Bakery in Culver City, April 2nd-5th. Sosa and Santos have released two CDs together over the past decade, Nfumbe for the Unseen, on Omar’s Otá Records label, and “La Mar”, on John’s Machete Records label.
Joining the Quartet will be noted Bay Area saxophonist, now living in Brooklyn, Peter Apfelbaum, of Hieroglyphics Ensemble fame, and Omar’s longtime bassist from Mozambique, Childo Tomas.
With four Grammy nominations between them, Sosa and Santos, feature an improvisatory approach to their Latin jazz repertoire with strong Afro-Cuban roots. Omar Sosa releases a new CD this month on Half Note Records entitled Across The Divide, featuring the folkloric Americana singing of Tim Eriksen, and elements of Langston Hughes’ poetry.
