Antoinette Montague Performs With The Queens Jazz Orchestra

Last May, Antoinette Montague performed when jazz history was made at the inaugural concert of the17-piece Queens Jazz Orchestra at Flushing Town Hall. On May 29th, 2009 under the direction of jazz icon Jimmy Heath the QJO and Antoinette Montague will once again perform together.

Antoinette Montague has appeared on the cover of Jazz Improv’s Jazz Guide and on two book covers of Who’s Who in Jazz, Cabaret and Music (from 1600′s to Now). She has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, the Zebra Room in Harlem’s famous Lenox Lounge, the legendary Blue Note, the Blue Smoke and the Jazz Standard with the Winard Harper Sextet and Dr. Billy Taylor.

Antoinette was hired as a leader opposite Jr. Mance for Jazzmobile’s Summer Breeze Concert Series with Huston Person for a tribute to Junior Mance with Winard Harper, Tommy James and Bill Moring. Antoinette works most regularly with Bill Easely, a brilliant and versatile reed player, who performs equally forcefully on alto, tenor, and baritone saxes as well as flute, piccolo, and clarinet.


Performance Details:

The May 29th QJO concert will feature music by legendary musicians and composers who resided in Queens like Woody Herman, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Clark Terry, and Frank Wess. Conductor Jimmy Heath will also be adding in some big band arrangements for this concert. Trombonist Wycliffe Gordon will debut “CyberSwing”- Jazz in the Digital Age.
