Who Is He?

At the age of 15 years old, Charles Alexander Glenn, Jr. began took his own part of Nashville music folklore becoming one of the youngest professional musicians in the country. By the time he was 18 year old, he had moved to Los Angeles and was well-versed in the LA music scene. Glenn wasted no time in bringing together several of his Nashville music friends. His band, Ozone, would climb the mountain to stardom in LA.

The bands talent was undeniable and was immediately recognized by music icon Billy Preston, who took them under his wing. After two years of touring with Preston, Ozone was signed to a recording contract by Motown Records, where they created and release five Ozone albums:

(1) Strutt My Thang
(2) Gigolette
(3) Do What Cha Wanna Do
(4) Jump To It
(5) Keep On Dancin’

Glenn’s band because the house band for several acts on the Motown roster, and in their “off-time,” recorded and toured with Teena Marie, Sammy Davis Jr, and Luther Vandross among others.


Charles Glenn Steals The Spotlight:

The band eventually disbanded, and Charles Glenn had his opportunity to have the spotlight for himself, moving to Europe and touring with Billy Preston. Billy dubbed Charles “King C,” and Glenn had earned a reputation as a world-class bass player. His flamboyant, sap and pull, funky style caught the attention of legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Little Richard, and he offered Glenn a full-time position in his band. Over two decades later, King C plays every show, recording date and television appearance with Little Richard.

In between tours you might find Charles Glenn in his Los Angeles area recording studio, arranging and producing music for clients like Disney Records. Glenn produced the Disney album For Our Children, which has sold more than a million copies and includes artists Paul McCartney, Elton John and Paula Abdul. Charles arranged, played the instruments and produced the his single “Itsy Bitsy Spider” on that album for his long-time mentor, Little Richard.


Currently:

Charles Glenn, “King C”, is back in the studio these days, working on a series of albums. The first of these albums, The Bass King, was release back in September of 2008 and is a compilation of a lifetime of experiences and styles (pictured at right). It stands for Glenn’s unique energy, and after all those years supporting other artists, he decided it was his turn. He continues to work in the studio and is scheduled to release another album to coincide with touring dates – .

He also continues to tour, both in the states and in Europe. Fans love his performance because “he doesn’t just lay the music, he becomes the music, right in front of your eyes.” He is a remarkable man, with many stories about the music business at the highest levels and loves to talk about music, jazz and his experiences with these stars.
