Francisco Aguabella Plays Steamers October 11th
Steamers presents the finest in Latin jazz with master conguero Francisco Aguabella and his Latin band on Sunday, October 11th, 2009. Born in Matanzas, Cuba, Francisco Aguabella is master of the Yoruba-derived bata drums and rumba form as well as contemporary traditions including Cuban son, salsa, and Latin jazz.
Francisco Aguabella is a recipient of awards such as the National Heritage Fellowship of the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and received a fellowship for the Durfee Foundation. He was featured in the documentary, “Sworn to the Drum” by Les Blank, and is currently featured in a new documentary, “Aguabella,” currently in production. He also has appeared on the Orlando Jones Show on FX.
Francisco is widely recognized as a master conguero, a caring and knowledgeable instructor, and one of the most inspiring artists of all time. He is Adjunct Assistant Professor and directs the Afro-Cuban Music Ensemble at UCLA. For more information and audio samples, visit his site.
