Enja Records artists Trio Elf bring their creative re-invention of the traditional jazz trio format to New York for three performances in the beginning of November, 2009. The group schedule is:

- November 2nd at the Drummers’ Collective
- November 4th at the Douglass Street Music Collective
- November 5th at the Gershwin Hotel

And as an added bonus, drummer Gerwin Eisenhauer will hold a workshop at the Drummers’ Collective the night of the performance. The group is made of Gerwin Eisenhauer on drums, Walter Lang on piano and Sven Faller on bass.

Group Background

Trio Elf, from Bavaria in Germany, has achieved acclaim for incorporating new popular music styles such as techno, hiphop and drum&bass into the concept of the acoustic jazz piano trio. Drummer Gerwin Eisenhauer has studied with Dave Weckl, led workshops with Robby Ameen and has published a drum&bass workbook in 2005. Pianist Walter Lang brings a romantic and melodic sensitivity to the trio. Sven Faller has collaborated with Jim Beard, Chico Freeman, Charlie Mariano, John Patitucci and Bobby Watson and is a master at connecting bass line grooves with the romantic and the lyrical.

Trio Elf has compiled a repertoire that ranges from acoustic versions of music by such electronic icons such as Aphex Twin and Kraftwerk to digital versions of classics by Thelonious Monk, Milton Nascimento, Paolo Conte and Brahms. Their original compositions are inspired by sources as diverse as Bach, Jobim, the Beatles and “grunge.” Their two Enja recordings, We 3 Are 11 (2006) and 746 (2008), were hailed by critics in Europe and Japan and have been described as the “New Sound Of The Trio.”
