For the past 33 years, Dante’s Down The Hatch has been bringing the people of Atlanta great jazz. Providing great enteritainment six nights a week, their live jazz selections will have you leaving wanting more.

Their jazz can be characterized as romantic, intellectual, soft, and soothing. Folowing the styles of such greats as Oscar Peterson, erroll Garner, and George Shearing, the musicians aim to please and take request from the audience.

For over 25 years, Cafe 290 has been internationally known as both the hottest and coolest place in Atlanta, all at the same time. John Scatena, owner, says their goal is to take jazz to the maximum and expose the world to the best performers Atlanta has to offer.

Cafe 290 is the best known and is the most respected venue for mainstream, contemporary and funk jazz. There are also frequent cameo appearances by known national and international performers. Cafe 290 gained fame as one of only three jazz spots nationwide picked to unveil the U.S. Postal Service’s Jazz Legends postage stamp.

Some artists to have performed here include Natalie Cole, Sonny Emory, Reggie Hines, William Green, Tony Toyster, Khat Phud, among others. While Cafe 290 prides itself on its all-star line-ups, they also pull from their local musicians, many of which who have made their start at this fine establishment and have gone on to have fabulous careers.

As the Churchill Grounds intends to uphold the sophistication and eloquence of jazz as a great American art form, the establishment is dedicated to seeking out only the most dedicated and talented jazz musicians to help maintain Jazz as a forefront in modern music.

Featured performances to grace the stage at the Grounds have included accomplished jazz musicians such as Cedar Walton, Freddie Cole, Loston Harris, Chico Freeman, Donald Harrison, Marcus Printup, Philip Harper, and Russell Gunn. While they have hosted those who have made it big, they are always on the lookout for the next up-and-coming jazz star. Some claim that their selection is a little reserved; however this tells you what kind of enjoyment you can prepare yourself for here. Their reputation has been built upon this, and their aim at preserving the great American art form hits the mark.

Their venue features great acoustics and visibility for all audience members, boasting their famous Whisper Room. Most everyone has positive things to say about the setup and stage area, recommending it highly.

Studio 281 Is The Place For Jazz In Atlanta

Nestled in the Castleberry Hills district of Atlanta, a seemingly quaint establishment (at first glance at the outside anyway) with a red neon sign illuminates to drive the curious people passing by. In reality, this place features one of the greatest environments for jazz in the Atlanta area.

Lined with photos of the greatest artists of the last 50 years and unique artwork featured only here, the walls of Studio 281 show visitors the essence of avant-garde jazz in a setting that feels like home.

Accommodating approximately 120 people, Studio 281 has more than enough room to showcase the hottest gigs around – and they do on a normal basis. Open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays (from 7pm to 2am), their featured shows are presented Thursday-Saturday (depending on the artist) and offer a truly inventive approach to jazz.

They open at 7:00pm, and the shows usually begin around 8:00 pm.
Shows are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Cover charge is $15.
